On Saturday night at the Southern Stars Awards in Mildura, Aleyce Simmonds scooped the pool, taking out Australian Independent Female Vocalist of the Year for the second year running PLUS Country Single of the Year and Australian Independent Artist of the Year.
The Female Vocalist and Country Single awards were won for Aleyce’s self-penned song ‘Joshua’, written about her deceased baby brother, making the announcements incredibly bitter-sweet for the Tamworth based Singer/Songwriter.
“I was too overwhelmed to say very much at all when John Arnold announced me as the Australian Independent Artist of the Year! I write music from a very personal place so when my songs connect with people, it truly means the world. It’s nice to feel like you’re on the right track” – Aleyce
Aleyce is currently on the road touring the Girls Of Country show with Amber Lawrence and Christie Lamb and the Acoustic Highways show with Paul Costa.
Bluesfest touring made the call out on social media for local artists to submit a post as an application to support Hunter Hayes in either Sydney or Melbourne.
Fan likes and comments on these posts translated as votes that would put a select few into the ‘shortlist’. Hunter Hayes personally selected a local artist from both locations to support him and Aleyce Simmonds received the Melbourne call.
